And if you’re not a water enthusiast, explore the park on one of our guided excursions by car.

Where Do the Boat Trips in Almería Take Place?

The activity takes place along more than 60 kilometers of the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, a protected natural area with around 38,000 hectares of land and 12,000 hectares in the Alboran Sea. This remarkable space combines biodiversity, history, and breathtaking volcanic landscapes. It was the second maritime–terrestrial Natural Park created in Spain, recognized for the richness of its underwater life and environmental importance.

Other Available Locations:

  • Western Almería: Paraje de Punta Entinas – Sabinar, departing from Roquetas or Almerimar.
  • City of Almería: Port of Almería.
  • Eastern Almería (Levante): Carboneras, Mojácar, or Garrucha.

What’s Included in the Experience

During the excursion you will be able to:

  • Sail along the coast on rigid boats – stable and comfortable – or on semi-rigid inflatable boats, which are fast and fun. Be guided by a professional skipper who will navigate the boat and provide insights about the Natural Park.
  • Stop for a swim or snorkel, with mask and snorkel provided.
  • Observe the incredible biodiversity of protected marine life, including Posidonia oceanica, an endemic Mediterranean plant currently at risk of extinction.
  • Admire volcanic landscapes and virgin beaches, testimony to the park’s submarine origins, the largest volcanic protected natural space in the Iberian Peninsula.

Duration: Between 1.5 and 2 hours, depending on the day’s conditions and chosen route.

Availability: All year round, recommended between April and November. Departures may be canceled in case of bad weather. Depending on the wind, the route may be adjusted to offer alternative options.

What to See on the Boat Trips in Almería

  • Marine biodiversity: home to emblematic and protected Mediterranean species. Its seabeds host over 250 plant species and countless vertebrates and invertebrates, many of them endemic.
  • Posidonia oceanica: essential for the richness of the underwater ecosystem. An Amazon jungle beneath the sea and one of the oldest living beings on the planet – some meadows are thought to be over 10,000 years old. This plant has lived in the Mediterranean for 100 million years, coexisting with dinosaurs.
  • Volcanic cliffs and virgin beaches, accessible only from the sea. Famous coves where pirates once came to collect fresh water. The best place to observe volcanism in the Iberian Peninsula, active between 14 and 6 million years ago.
  • Fortifications and historic buildings: old defensive watchtowers, many now converted into lighthouses – including the tallest lighthouse in the Mediterranean – as well as ancient castles that once defended the coast against attacks.
  • Traditional Mediterranean fishing villages: whitewashed houses blending with the sea. Fishermen’s homes that still preserve traditional fishing methods today.

We did a tour of the refugios with Emilio and his team and it was amazing! They are knowledgeable, friendly, adaptable, and fully bilingual. In addition to giving insights and historical context, he connected it with the city’s present architecture and imbued a difficult topic of war with uplifting themes. Definitely a one of a kind experience and the best way to discover Almería’s landmarks. Don’t miss out on this amazing tour company!

Excellent tour of the Refugios below the streets of Almeria

This was a fascinating tour of the underground ‘refugios’ that were built and used during the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1939. Emilio gave us fascinating background information as we walked along under the streets of Almeria. He then gave us an additional tour above-ground, showing us yet more historical locations that were connected to that struggle. His commentary (in excellent English) brought to life the pain and fortitude of Almeria’s people during that time.
This was a great tour and we highly recommend Emilio for anyone visiting Almeria!

I didn’t end up going on this tour as there were not enough people and I would have had to pay for three people. On the day, the tour guide explained to me that I could go later in the day for free(due to one day fiesta). Friendly, completely transparent and very ethical. I’m sorry to have missed out on this tour but would highly recommend this company. Muchas gracias!
